参考范文:

Certainly, the news media today have to adapt to many technological changes. Nevertheless, some feel that nowdays they play more pivotal roles in our lives and this is negative. Although I have my doubts, I tend to agree and will explain my view below.

Admittedly, there could be reasons for siding against this. Firstly, and most obviously, there are more entertainment options today to distract us from the news. By using devices such as smartphones and tablets, many users can spend hours listening to music and gaming, leading to them not only avoiding traditional media like television but also arguably being less aware of current events. Secondly, for those who do consume news, this could help them become better informed. My cousin Tom, for example, a first year university student, reads voratiously online, obsessively learning about global warming. This, certainly, has caused him to become more politically active and involved in community initiatives.

Despite this, I believe that news media have become more pervasive and this has had adverse effects on our lives. One reason for this is that they are, in my view, often influenced by the government. When this happens, such as in North Korea, the authorities can carefully censor the information their citizens receive, in turn, broadly speaking, silencing many critics. What this invariably does is restrict criticism and stifle democracy. Another is that news media ownership is, more often than not, limited to a small number of companies, which can creat monopolies. A good case in point is Fox, owned by the mogul Rupert Murdoch, as it covers a vast number of media channels worldwide. As such, it can push its conservative agenda to a large number of people, which is why, ultimately, it is more prevalent in our lives.

Overall, I believe that, while some people can escape the news media and they may be positive for others, they are generally difficult to avoid and negative.

中学生是否应该把学习国际新闻作为学习项目之一?有人认为这是浪费他们宝贵的学习时间。讨论双方观点并给出你的观点。

参考范文:

The potential for the global media to shape the views of today’s youth is considerable. However, while some commentators think that the media has no place within secondary education, other analysts defend the idea that international news should be studied at school. In this essay, I shall examine a number of studies which show that both viewpoints are, to some degree, justified.

To begin with, the global media undoubtedly enriches teenagers understanding of contemporary affairs. This is because television reports provide concise summaries of international affairs. For example, a study run by Oxford sociologists showed that the media heavily influenced teenagers’ knowledge of contemporary affairs. Since any secondary school education would be incomplete without an awareness of such events, it is therefore clear that the media can play a vital role in assisting education.

On the other hand, many critics argue that teenagers are negatively affected by the global media’s focus on wars and civil unrest. This is because exposure to violence often leads to depression. For example, recent surveys have discovered that depressed teenagers usually cite the dismal state of the world as a source of their depression. Since mental health is an important objective of secondary education, it is therefore questionable whether the study of international news wouldn’t be a destructive and wasteful use of school resource.

In conclusion, it should be clear that there are reasons for and against the study of news at school. Thus if media studies are to enter schools in the future, schools will have to think about how negative aspects of the news can be decreased, and positive aspects maximized.

雅思大作文新闻媒体类话题范文新媒体对于本土文化的影响

Exposure to international media, such as TV, film and magazine, has a significant impact on the local culture. What do you think the impact has been? Do you agree that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?

接触国际媒体,如电视、电影和杂志,对当地文化有重大影响。你认为影响是什么?你认为利大于弊吗?

参考范文:

It is certainly true that being exposed to foreign media which includes movies, TV and publications has significantly affected local cultures as evidently seen in my country, the Philippines. It greatly affected our local languages and family values.

Exposure to international music, TV shows and magazines has caused a change to our local languages. By constantly listening for instance, to western songs and watching American TV series such Pretty Little Liars, people in my country have eventually adapted the European language or even an American accent. As a result, this adaptation could gradually lessen the use of our Tagalog language. However, it could also make us globally competitive especially when hardly looking for an employment internationally. As for my experience when I was looking for a nursing job in Melbourne, Australia, one of their hospitals' requirements is for me to be able to communicate English in advanced level.

Also, constant exposure to foreign media has caused a considerable impact to family values. For instance, my country is a very conservative nation. Reserved people here strongly disregard sex before marriage, but because of foreign cultures regard this unacceptable notion as acceptable and obviously shown in American and western films, Filipinos tend to do so. This leads to the negative influence to my country's family culture.

In conclusion, I think that there are benefits and drawbacks brought to local cultures by international media, but I cannot deny the fact that because of these foreign sources of information, I have learned a lot, most especially English language. So I certainly believe that there are more positive effects of these global media than the negative ones.
