A:Hi,Tony.You're dressed up,what's the occasion?

B:I'm invited to a cocktail party this evening.You know IBM is celebrating their 5th anniversary of the opening branch here.Many people in our firm are invited,will you go too?

A:I'd like to.But here is another party I must go this evening.

B:Who is the host?

A:The party is given by Mr Brown.You know he is the major client of our firm.Mr Green has accepted the invitation and I have to go with him as his PAHere is the invitaion:Mr BrownPresident of the American Trading Company request the honor of your presence at the formal opening of Shanghai Branch On Friday,March the twentieth at seven o'clockHilton Hotel

B:Oh,it looks very formal.Would you have to answer it if you decided not to go?

A:Yes,I suppose so.We have received many invitations these days.There are formal ones like this and informal ones.Of course we can't go all of these parties and cocktails.But we must reply to all of them,especially those with RSVPon it.You must inform them immediately whether you go or not.

B:What does that mean,the RSVP?

A:Oh,it's French,it means ‘please reply’.

B:What are the things we should bear in mind when we go to the parties like this?

A:You should go there on time,of course.But two or three minutes later will be better.You'd better not go there early.Perhaps your host or hostess may not be ready yet.

B:What if I happen to get there say,at a restaurant,a few minutes earlier?

A:It's all right,then.If you arrive at a restaurant before your host,wait at the bar.Your host will pick up the tab for your drink.
